Could it be you? Could you be next to serve here in Chiapas?

Our term of missionary service in Ocosingo ended in August of 2008. Randy DuVall, an attorney from First Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, VA will serve as the Missionary in Residence in Chiapas from April to August, 2009. We are grateful to Randy for his faithfulness to serve and for sharing our love of the Tzeltal people and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Although Randy will be "on the ground" in Chiapas to welcome work groups and serve with Pablo & Jan during the 2009 Group Season, the needs of this ministry continue to grow. Pablo & Jan Feliciano need others to come to join them to continue with:
  • the development and operation of Las Manos de Cristo Medical Clinic here in Ocosingo
  • facilitating mission groups from the US
  • correspondence with US partners in missions and ministry
  • and so much more!
We know that there are many different kinds of people in this world and each has their own gifts. We pray that another missionary family will hear and answer God's call to serve here Chiapas. They may be bring different gifts, but we hope they bring the same spirit of humble servanthood that we have tried to bring here.

The basics of missionary service here and our recommendations:

  • Recommend you begin by going through PCUSA's One Door Network and complete a profile application. The position will soon be listed as "Tzeltal Synod Partnership Facilitator." While approval by PCUSA is not required, we have been striving to build a relationship between this ministry and PCUSA. Missionary involvement with One Door can only help. We were approved as PCUSA Short-Term Mission Volunteers last year.
  • Pray, pray, pray, and ask others to do the same. Share your sense of being called with your pastor, your session, your spiritual mentors and your family. Get their feedback. Do they feel you are suited for this kind of service? Pray, listen, talk, pray, listen, talk and pray some more! Let us know so we can be praying for you too!
  • Consider serving 2-5 years. Our term of service will have been for 2 1/2 years, and we would all say that it is not long enough even though our needs to return haven't really changed. If you can commit to staying longer, we hope you will.
  • Missionaries are responsible for raising their own support, even if accepted by PCUSA for short-term missionary service. Begin thinking about how you'll raise your support.
  • Responsibilities will continue to include hosting mission groups, communicating with US partners in missions and ministry, helping with the medical clinic, accompanying Pastor Pablo to remote villages in Chiapas, and accompanying Pastor Pablo on a multi-state tour in the US to promote the ministry, its needs, and build/strengthen partnerships with US churches and other organizations.
  • Missionaries are provided with housing on the campus of the bible school.  This means "no grass hut, no dirt floor" housing. Accommodations are still probably quite different than what you're used to, but they are quite adequate and well-equipped. There are two apartments available, each with 2 BR, 1 BA, and a kitchen/living/dining area. Depending on the size of your family, you may not need both apartments. Both are partially furnished with some furniture, appliances, hot water heater, TV, and wireless internet. Satellite television is available through Sky.
  • Send us an email requesting an application. This is in addition to the One Door application and is very specific to service here in Ocosingo.
